Engage stage

Over the last few weeks we have been in the 'engage' stage of our topic 'Pitter Patter Puddle Play'. We are now moving on to the 'Develop' stage which will see us using and developing our writing skills and our mathematic skills more in all the areas of learning. Of course we will continue to get creative and physical with all our wonderful activities.

Number work

This week we have been working on our numbers. We've been counting forwards and backwards and finding missing numbers. We've been trying hard with our number formation too!

Harvest

It's harvest time! Mrs Abel told us all about this important festival! We found out that at this time of year Christians go to church to thank God for all our food and for providing the sun and the rain to make the seeds grow and the fruit and vegetables. Also for our farmers who look after the crops and harvest everything when its ready.

We took a few minutes to think of foods that we were grateful for and said 'Thank you'.

Then we got to make our very own harvest soup. We all had a turn to prepare the vegetables by peeling and chopping them up and putting them in a big stew pot. We had onions, carrots, swede, parsnip and potatoes. The teachers then put the soup on to cook and at the end of the day we got to eat it with some delicious bread (photos to follow).

Some of us then wrote shopping lists in the writing area, used magnetic letters to spell out words of harvest, made soup in Peppa's kitchen, drew harvest pictures with chalk and wrote thank you prayers on the easel.

We're going on a bear hunt

We've been reading the story 'We're going on a bear hunt'. We went up to the pond area and acted out the story using actions! We went through the swishy swashy grass, the squerch squelch of the mud, we sploshed and splashed in the river, stumbled and tripped in the forest, hoo wooed in the swirly, whirly snowstorm and tiptoed in the cave! Then when we saw the bear we had to go back through all those actions to finally get home again - under the duvet!
