Friday 17 September 2010

Here are some of the other things we have been doing this week in Reception. As you can see we have been very busy again!

Creative Development - name cards

We've been practising to write our names! In the creative area we wrote our names and then decorated the border with lots of things like glitter, sticky paper, pipe cleaners and made them look really pretty. We will be bringing them home next week when they are all dry and then we can hang them up somewhere (maybe on our bedroom door)

Language, Literacy & Communication

We've started learning our 'Jolly phonics' - hurray. We started by watching a Dvd which introduced us to the character 'Inky mouse' and he taught us the first three sounds 's', 'a', 't'. Then Mrs Abel showed us the actions for the sounds and how we form them. We used our magic fingers to practise. Jolly Phonics is going to be great fun and we'll be learning our sounds in no time!

Mathematical Development

This week we have been seeing which numbers we recognise from 0 to 10. Then we have cut and stuck them in the correct order in our books. Some of us know the numbers to 5, some of us needed a little help to order correctly and some of us did it all by ourselves!

Physical Development

This week we have been practising finding a space. This means sitting/standing where we are not touching anyone or anything. This keeps us safe and allows us to practise our skills without hurting ourselves or anyone else. We did it really well and Mrs Abel was proud of us.

Then we played the 'traffic lights' game. We pretended to be cars and when Mrs Abel shouted out 'green' we ran around the room being careful not to bump into each other, when 'amber' was called we had to change to walking and finally 'red' meant we had to stop and freeze as quickly as possible.
