Last week R2 said "Goodbye and lots of luck" to two children in our class! We gave each of them a 'Good Luck' card and had a party for them on their last day. We hope that they both enjoy their new schools. We are missing them already!
Welcome to our Reception Class blog. Here you can see all the exciting things that we do.

PE - bouncing a ball
We've been learning to bounce and catch balls this week in PE. We had to try and bounce our ball two times and then catch it. We know we have to practise our skills in order to get better and better. Have a look at how we did!
Knowledge and Understanding - minibeast facts
We have really enjoyed finding out facts about minibeasts from around the world this week. We looked at the kids national geographic website and saw videos of tarantulas, dung beetles, red-eyed tree frogs, spotted salamanders and lots more too! We discovered where they lived, what they ate and some of their funny antics too. We chose our favourite minibeast, drew it and tried to remember one of the facts that we had learned about.
Creative Development - saltdough minibeasts
LLC - 'Jasper's beanstalk'
Over the past few weeks we have been reading the story of 'Jasper's beanstalk'. We have learned actions to help us remember the order the story comes in and have done lots of fun activities such as acting it out and using a sack full of props to help us remember what comes first, then and next.
As part of our Knowledge and Understanding of the World, we have also been doing lots of other activities related to the story. Here we are writing labels for all of our plants around reception and sticking them in the right pots

A surprise visitor
This week we had a surprise visitor! Her name was PC Daniels and she told us she was the schools Police Officer and would be coming in on a regular basis to talk about what the police do! BUT she had come in especially to tell us about a 'hero' in Reception - imagine our surprise when she went on to explain that Ross had been a hero a few weeks ago when his nanny had fallen in her house and how he had made sure she got help! He had gone outside to call for someone and even remembered the special number he had to ring to get help! We are so proud of him and here we are giving him a big clap. PC Daniels gave Ross a special sticker and we all got one too if we promised we would tell our mummies and daddies just how clever Ross had been.

Days of the Week
This week we have been learning the days of the week and the order in which they come. We have enjoyed learning a new song and playing different games where we had to order the days. We have also been using the language 'today', 'tomorrow' and 'yesterday'.

PSDWBCD/K&U - More of our adventures at Bryngarw House
When we arrived at the Park our Park Wardens Dan and Keith talked to us about the rules.
Dan showed us a big hole where a rabbit and her babies lived.
Next we pretended we were squirrels and looked for the fir cones they like to eat. Then we buried them in safe places. We learnt this is what squirrels do so that they have enough food for the winter.
As we walked through the park Dan found a newt. It was very small!

PSDCDWB/K&U Our visit to Bryngarw House
What a lovely time we had at Bryngarw House this week. Our park wardens (Keith & Dan) were very helpful and told us lots of interesting facts and stories about the park. We went on a woodland walk and saw lots of wonderful things.
We found worms, snails, slugs, woodlice
Our final stop was the playground! We had loads of fun!
Our first stop was the duck pond.
We pretended to be squirrels and searched for our hidden food
Then we hid the food again to keep it safe!
Next Dan told us all about this funny looking fellow. We wonder if the children can remember his name?
This American Redwood tree went a long, long way up. Keith told us all about the owl who lives in it.
This is the oldest tree in the park. Can you see the bear's face?
We arrived at the 'nature garden' and Dan explained to us that we were going on a minibeast hunt. We had to look under special tiles and pieces of wood and put what we found in a plastic tray.
We looked really carefully!
We found worms, snails, slugs, woodlice
We even found a toad! Some of us stroked it - Ellie-Mai told us that it felt like jelly!
Our final stop was the playground! We had loads of fun!
At the end of the day we were all a bit wet and very tired so had a quiet journey back to school.
