Our Harvest Celebrations

All the children brought a fruit or vegetable into school. We talked about the produce and where it came from. The children were able to sort the produce into whether it was a fruit or a vegetable.

Mrs Abel's class made vegetable soup. They peeled and chopped carrots, potatoes, swede, leeks, celery and onions. Then they put the vegetables into a big pan with water and salt and cooked it on the hob.

Mrs Carter's class made some harvest bread. They mixed together the ingredients and baked it in the oven.

Mrs Vaughan's class made a fruit salad. They peeled and chopped all the fruit carefully using knives.

The children enjoyed sharing what they had made with everyone. The bread, soup and fruit salad were all delicious!

Physical Development

The children have been exploring how they can make shapes with their bodies and became familiar with vocabulary of tall, small, wide, thin. During physical activities this term the children are working hard at developing their spacial awareness.

Caring for our pets

In Reception we have fish and giant snails. We talked about how we could care for the pets. The children showed curiosity and enjoyed handling the pets. The children are now involved with the feeding and cleaning of the pets on a regular basis

Making clay sea creatures

After reading 'The Rainbow Fish' the children had the opportunity to model their own sea creature using clay. The children were provided with pictures of underwater creatures and a variety of toys from which they could choose what to do and how they would do it.

Role play - Home corner

The Home Corner in Reception allows the children to interact whilst taking on a familiar role within a familiar context. The children are beginning to represent ideas through self initiated play. Here the children are enjoying playing 'mums and dads'. Their jobs included laying the table, making dinner, washing up and looking after a baby.

Talking Partners in Mathematical Development

During a mathematical activity about 2d shapes the children spent time with their 'Talking Partners' to discuss the properties of different shapes. They asked each other questions about the number of sides and corners. The children showed they were able to communicate to their partner with increasing confidence.

Finding out about the past

Mrs Abel's mum and dad came to school to talk to us about being a child 60 years ago. They brought lots of photos of them as children and we were surprised they were black and white!
The children were able to listen and respond to what they heard. At the end they were able to ask questions to find out further information.
