A very warm welcome to the reception blog to all new children and parents.
Below you will find an overview of work to be covered during the Autumn Term.


Theme – Our wonderful world of colour

Mathematical Development

· Recognise, order & counting numbers to 10 and beyond – What number comes next?
· Counting objects in sets – leaves, animals, shapes
· Begin to record numbers
· 2D shapes sorting, name recognition
· Language of adding, adding 1 more to a number
· Adding by combining 2 sets
· Comparing lengths/heights
· Comparing numbers, quantities- more/less
· Counting forwards/backwards to 10
· Recognising coins
· Measure time – recognising a minute as a unit of time
· Estimating quantities

Language, Literacy and Communication Skills

· Listening to stories with predictable and patterned structures e.g. We're going on a bear hunt, Handa's hen etc.
· Theme related stories - Elmer, Kipper and the Blue Balloon, Mixed up
chameleon, Rainbow Fish etc
· Listening carefully to others - Show and tell, news, talking partners, message taking

Welsh Language Development

Communicating in Welsh through Speaking and listening, reading and writing.

Creative Development

· Explore and experiment with colours and materials – collage, weaving, bubbles, rainbows,
dye, colour mixing
· Look at the work of Local artist discuss use of colours and shapes
· Using ICT package to draw themselves and animals
· Threading/ sewing coloured bunting (recycling)
· Modelling with clay
· Learn a variety of theme related songs
· Experiment with sounds/instruments that represent animal sounds
· Making soup/ fruit salad

First week back!

This week we have been finding out which group we are going to be in and spending time getting used to all the new activities and toys in Reception. It's been a very busy week and the following pictures show you just some of the things we have been doing.

Fluffy visitors to R2.

R2 had a very exciting visit this week - two 3 day old chicks came to see us. We found out lots about how they had hatched and how they had to be looked after. Then we were all given the chance to hold them. We thought of lots of lovely words to describe the way that they felt in our hands - tickly, soft, fluffy, cute and little were just some of the words that we thought of. A big thank you to Mrs Melody for bringing them in to see us!

PSDCDWB 'playing and having fun together'

This week we have been working hard on our end of term assessments in Language, Literacy & Communication and Personal and Social Development. Once we had completed these we have really enjoyed playing together, co-operating and sharing.

More Physical Development - hitting and steering

R2 had a fun time during their PE lesson this week brushing up on their bat skills. First we reminded ourselves how to steer, control and stop the ball with a bat. Then we had a go at steering the ball between two cones. We also worked in pairs , hitting a ball to each other through a goal. We finished the lesson off with a relay race. We worked really hard and Mrs Utting was really pleased with our bat skills.

K&U floating and sinking

This week we have been investigating 'floating and sinking'. We started by seeing whether various objects from around our classroom and outside would 'float' or 'sink'. We then made our own sails and chose different objects for ourselves to make boats and sorted them according to whether they would sink or float.
