WELCOME BACK!

A very warm welcome to the reception blog to all new children and parents.
Below you will find an overview of work to be covered during the Autumn Term.


Theme – Colour in our world

Mathematical Development

· Recognise, order & counting numbers to 10 and beyond – What number comes next?
· Counting objects in sets – leaves, animals, shapes
· Begin to record numbers
· 2D shapes sorting, name recognition
· Language of adding, adding 1 more to a number
· Adding by combining 2 sets
· Comparing lengths/heights
· Comparing numbers, quantities- more/less
· Counting forwards/backwards to 10
· Recognising coins
· Measure time – recognising a minute as a unit of time
· Estimating quantities


Language, Literacy and Communication Skills

· Listening to stories, poems and rhymes
· Theme related stories - Elmer, Kipper and the Blue Balloon, Mixed up

chameleon, Rainbow Fish etc
· Listening carefully to others - Show and tell, news, talking partners, message taking
· Re-telling stories, sequencing stories,
· Acting out stories through role play and use of puppets
· Jolly Phonics – letter groups 1-7 (42 sounds)

Personal and Social Development, Well being and Cultural Diversity

Physical Development

· Scissors skills – cutting out letters, numbers, shapes
· Weaving autumn objects


Welsh Language Development

Communicating in Welsh through Speaking and listening, reading and writing.

Creative Development

· Explore and experiment with colours and materials – collage, weaving, bubbles, rainbows,
dye, colour mixing
· Look at the work of Local artist discuss use of colours and shapes
· Using ICT package to draw themselves and animals
· Threading/ sewing coloured bunting (recycling)
· Modelling with clay
· Learn a variety of theme related songs
· Experiment with sounds/instruments that represent animal sounds
· Making soup/ fruit salad
